Telangana Congress Leader and Father Arrested in Lawyer's Murder; Party Moves for Expulsion
In a shocking turn of events, Hyderabad Police Commissioner V. C. Sajjanar revealed the details of a week-long investigation into the murder of Waqf Board advocate Moizuddin, implicating Telangana Congress leader Mujahid Alam Khan and his father. The authorities allege that the duo orchestrated a conspiracy over four months to eliminate Moizuddin, with Mujahid identified as the principal conspirator who allegedly facilitated the contract killing.
Alongside the father-son duo, five additional suspects have been apprehended for their roles in the crime. The police have charged Mujahid and Mahboob Alam Khan under sections 103(1) for murder and 61(2)(a) for criminal conspiracy under the BNS. During a press briefing, Sajjanar outlined how the murder was meticulously plotted as early as January, driven by longstanding property and financial disputes.
“In a very scientific manner, we have conducted a detailed investigation,” Sajjanar stated, detailing how the Khans initially intended to pay Rs 15 lakh for the hit. The operation involved a network of intermediaries, culminating in a violent act that resulted in Moizuddin's death. Notably, the investigation uncovered evidence including Rs 10 lakh in cash, multiple mobile phones, and the vehicle used in the crime.
Motivations for the murder appear tied to the Khans' expansive real estate interests, including a new medical college in Malakpet and commercial properties in Lakdi-ka-Pul. The Khan family, historically part of Hyderabad's aristocracy, not only boasts significant industrial holdings but also owns the well-known Hyderabad Deccan Cigarette Factory. Mujahid, in addition to his political role, chairs the Golconda Educational Academy.
Complicating matters further, Mujahid is closely related to Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi, as his brother is married to Owaisi's elder daughter. The two families have been entangled in land disputes for nearly twenty years, adding a layer of intrigue to this grim narrative. Following the gravity of the allegations, Congress leaders confirmed the party's decision to expel Mujahid amid the ongoing investigation.
