Gurugram Police Arrest Two in Alleged Forensic Report Conspiracy Linked to Mann Video
The Gurugram Police have intensified their investigation into a controversial video featuring Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, resulting in the arrest of two individuals accused of fabricating forensic reports. Authorities described this case as a "highly sensitive and significant matter," alleging a conspiracy aimed at discrediting the video's authenticity by misrepresenting the identity of the individual in question.
The uproar began earlier this year when a video emerged on social media showing Mann engaging in what many considered sacrilegious acts, including pouring liquor over images of Sikh Gurus. Following the video's release, the Akal Takht, the highest authority within Sikhism, summoned Mann in January. Despite the Akal Takht's forensic findings indicating no tampering, Mann has maintained his innocence, claiming the video was manipulated using artificial intelligence. On June 15, the Akal Takht labeled him "anti-Guru" and "anti-Khalsa Panth."
In a recent twist, the Gurugram Police apprehended Arun Mehandru, a forensic lab operator from Sirsa, and Ankit from Jind, both 25 years old. These arrests followed a complaint from Jaspreet Singh, a digital forensics expert, who alleged he was pressured to produce reports that would support a predetermined conclusion regarding the viral video. The police are now investigating the authenticity of the forensic reports, financial transactions related to their creation, and the involvement of others in this alleged conspiracy.
Singh's complaint indicates that he was approached by individuals posing as senior Punjab government officials who requested forensic reports to manipulate the narrative surrounding the video. He stated that he informed them that the existing evidence was insufficient to make any scientific determination. In the FIR, he emphasized that the efforts were not aimed at obtaining an impartial opinion but rather to craft reports that aligned with an already decided outcome.
As the investigation unfolds, political implications are rising, with allegations swirling around Punjab's political landscape. Senior Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia has claimed that a Punjab Police officer was involved in securing contradictory reports. Additionally, Congress leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira has questioned the legitimacy of the reports obtained by Mann, suggesting they were fabricated. Recent video evidence purportedly shows meetings between Singh and Punjab Police officials, further complicating the narrative.
