In Petition To Tamil Nadu Governor, AIADMK Seeks CBI Probe Into ‘Horse-Trading’ By TVK

In petition to Tamil Nadu Governor, AIADMK seeks CBI probe into ‘horse-trading’ by TVK

AIADMK Calls for CBI Inquiry into Alleged 'Horse-Trading' by TVK

The AIADMK is raising serious concerns following the resignation of four of its MLAs, who defected to the Tamil Valvur Katchi (TVK) last week. The party has expressed suspicion regarding the timing of these departures, especially given that the TVK lacks a legislative majority on its own. AIADMK officials allege that significant financial transactions are linked to these resignations, warranting a thorough investigation.

In a memorandum submitted to Tamil Nadu's Governor, the AIADMK previously highlighted concerns about its legislators allegedly supporting the TVK during a recent floor test. After presenting their petition, Krishnamoorthy, an AIADMK leader, emphasized the need for a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the resignations.

“The party general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami had given the complaint to stop the TVK government from purchasing AIADMK MLAs. The secretariat is being treated as the TVK party office. We have urged the Governor to take immediate action,”
he stated.

Further fueling the controversy, MP Dhanapal took to social media to question the backgrounds of the four MLAs, insisting on a CBI inquiry to safeguard democratic integrity. He also called for the Enforcement Directorate to probe the alleged financial activities associated with these transitions. The AIADMK has consistently blamed the TVK for such unethical practices.

“In a situation where the TVK does not have a separate majority, we must investigate the backgrounds of the four legislators who resigned immediately after taking office. There are indications of large-scale financial transactions. The central government must protect democracy through the CBI,”
he wrote on X.

In response, K.A. Sengottaiyan, Tamil Nadu's Minister for Revenue and Disaster Management, dismissed the allegations. Addressing the media after former AIADMK MLA S. Jayakumar's switch to the TVK, he remarked,

“We will respond to these allegations in the assembly. Our party had no need to resort to inducements to attract leaders from other parties and we have won on our strength. AIADMK leaders resigned from their posts before joining the TVK.”
