Siddaramaiah Resigns as Karnataka Chief Minister, Declines Rajya Sabha Offer

Karnataka's Chief Minister Siddaramaiah gathered his cabinet members for a farewell breakfast before formally resigning. Home Affairs Minister G. Parameshwara shared this information shortly before the meeting, emphasizing Siddaramaiah's desire to thank his colleagues. The seasoned politician reiterated his commitment to state politics, expressing gratitude for his past service.

“I had said time and again that I will resign whenever high command tells me,”
he stated during a press conference.

Despite being invited to join the Rajya Sabha, Siddaramaiah made it clear that he intends to focus on his role as an MLA for the next two years.

“I want to remain in state politics and I am not interested in national politics,”
he affirmed, adding,
“I have given my resignation on my own accord.”
His departure marks a significant shift in Karnataka's political landscape, with speculation surrounding his successor.

During the breakfast meeting, Siddaramaiah conveyed his decision to his cabinet and party leaders, with visuals showing his close ally, D.K. Shivakumar, seeking his blessings. This display of camaraderie suggests a smooth leadership transition, as Shivakumar is widely expected to take over. While Congress leaders confirmed that Rahul Gandhi had urged Siddaramaiah to resign, they have yet to officially announce his successor, leaving some uncertainty in the party ranks.

Siddaramaiah also took a moment to reflect on his journey, emphasizing his dedication to fighting against communal forces, stating,

“Until my last breath, I will fight against communal forces. Because the Constitution is against all this.”
His political career has been marked by a deep connection to his roots, as he noted how education changed his life from humble beginnings.
